Pausing to listen to an airplane in the sky, stooping to watch a ladybug on a plant… children have their own agendas and timescales. As they find out more about their world and their place in it, they work hard not to let adults hurry them.

I've found that because of their curiosities, my own has been re-ignited this last seven years. My eyes are constantly scanning for 'things' of interest, and I'm always bringing home a snake/bug/leaf/cool rock for their boxes (which already contain bugs, lizards, wasp nest, etc.) when they come over. My latest acquisition - a dead baby copperhead snake with it's mouth wide open!

ReplyDeleteLinda, I can't believe you brought a snake home. Awesome! I'm not sure I would have been brave enough to pick it up (even dead). Have the boys seen it yet? And if so, were they SO excited? Very cool.
Sad news about the snake...after I showed it to Conner, who was totally freaked out and didn't want anything to do with it, I put it in a ziplock bag and hung it on the side of the fridge so I wouldn't lose it before I had a chance to show it to Garrett. Unfortunately, the bag was under the toaster, and this morning I made toast and it melted around the snake! David said to throw it in the trash or it would start stinking, which I did without thinking much about it. (Hmmm, I'm thinking I could get it back out now that I've had time to think about it! Never got a chance to show it to Garrett, so that'll be my excuse to dig it out of the trash!)

They also spontaneously spin in a circle while walking down the street or sing a song all made up while in the grocery store line. They make life so fun!
