The Tooth Fairy

Yesterday, our youngest kid lost her final baby tooth. So I thought I'd do a brief recap of the Tooth Fairy at our house.

Back when she was 5 or so, one of Joey's classmates told her than he'd seen the Tooth Fairy and that she was super tiny.

So after losing her next tooth, Joey found, under her pillow, a teenie tiny note about the size of a postage stamp written (with an incredibly sharp pencil) on a regular sized piece of paper. She was enthralled with it. And carried it around with her for almost a week, reading it over and over.

And last night, almost 6 years later, when I pulled that original note out of storage to scan for this post, Joey sighed, "Ohhhh, I loved that."

Originally the Tooth Fairy brought money and received ambitious requests like this.

And this.

But after we'd established that the Tooth Fairy was indeed a wee little thing, it only made sense that what she'd bring in exchange for teeth would be tiny as well.

So she started bringing things like this.

Here's what the Tooth Fairy left one night when Joey lost a tooth while she was spending the night at Aurora's house. In case you couldn't tell, that's a tooth in there for scale. ;)

Is it just me or does that last bit seem vaguely threatening? At least it didn't mention anything about pliers. Which reminds me of this, the best costume ever. If you don't have kids, that is. Or if you don't mind your kids sleeping in your bed for the rest of their lives because they've been so traumatized.

The entire set of pictures of tooth fairy swag can be found here.

  1. Hi,

Your tooth fairy leaves really cool gifts!! I was so bad! In an attempt to get my kids to brush their teeth more, they didn't get money for a lost tooth if it had a cavity. Of course, with 6 at home at the same time, the tooth fairy was on a budget anyway. One time my oldest daughter accidently dropped a tooth down the sink. She was devastated and she wrote a very plaintive letter imploring TF to still leave her some money. Of course, TF being the kind little fairy that she was, did just that.

    8-)

  2. I *love* the "can I keep my tooth" request -- my kiddo has done that several times and I think it's the sweetest thing :).

The tooth fairy has left some great gifts at your house! She usually brings less-common money to my kiddo ($2 bills, gold dollars), which he invariably stashes so he won't spend it.

I will miss the tooth fairy when the last baby tooth comes out around here!

  3. The tooth fairy here in RI always leaves a trail of glitter where she enters. Either through a window, down the stairs, etc. The kids loved following the trail.

    Your TF rocks.

  4. This is brilliant! I LOVE it! Our tooth fairy is SOOOO boring. Maybe she'll send a super cool, and super tiny, replacement. :)

  5. Oh how fun! AT lost her 3rd baby tooth yesterday. She insisted that she put her TF money ($.50) into the family fun bank. I think she'd love these itty bitties too, but I know she wouldn't take care of them for more than 2 minutes. It's wonderful that yours does.
